Maldwyn John Evans

Senior Research Statistician and Ecologist

Dr Maldwyn John Evans is an ecologist and statistician with a background in insect ecology, conservation biology and statistical modelling. He has worked in Australia and Japan, contributing to some of the longest-running landscape-scale experiments globally. John’s scientific research spans restoration ecology, conservation biology, reintroduction science, carrion ecology, machine-learning text analyses, and human-nature interactions. His work encompasses a diverse range of taxa, including arthropods (beetles, butterflies, ants, bees, flies, and spiders) and vertebrates (reptiles, frogs, birds, and mammals).

With strong skills in experimental design and statistical analysis, John plays a pivotal role in analysing the world-class ecological data collected by Sustainable Farms. These data cover various aspects of biodiversity, including birds, vegetation restoration, dam enhancement, reptiles, and frogs.

A firm believer in the power of science and evidence, John is dedicated to understanding the role of biodiversity in ecosystems. He advocates for the importance of insects and other terrestrial invertebrates in ecosystem function. John also believes that biodiversity in farming landscapes can enhance farm production and improve the health and wellbeing of farmers.
