Climate resilient farming field day – Indigo Valley VIC
This field day will help farmers prepare for and respond to climate change by showcasing practical tips, tools and strategies to better inform farming decisions in a changing climate.
The morning will include presentations by Brad Costin from Agriculture Victoria and Dave Smith from ANU Sustainable Farms. Brad will discuss a range of management strategies, tools and resources. Dave will discuss the latest scientific research on farm dam management including how to improve water quality, halve greenhouse gas emssions from dams and why dams are biodiversity hotspots.
After lunch there will be a tour of a local beef farm to see climate smart farming in action.
Topics will include:
- Fodder conservation approaches
- Grazing and pasture management
- Fencing, paddock layout and farm access
- Farm water strategies and dam management
- Revegetation, shade and shelter
- Soil management
Registration is essential. Please bring a drink bottle, hat, and wear closed-in shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Lunch provided.
